Tomsk-Vietnam: movement towards one another

In the early 2000s, before the era of geopolitical confrontation, sanctions and trade wars, our country considered relations with the European Union, the United States, Canada and other countries of the "Western world" a priority in economic policy. Alas, often this went to the detriment of relations with our long-standing allies - since the days of the Soviet Union - the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. First of all, this concerns the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with which we have historically been linked by economic and cultural relations, military and scientific-technical cooperation.
Even before the historical “turn to the East”, when our whole country was still looking to the West, the Tomsk CCI began to develop the Vietnamese theme - organize business missions, invite Vietnamese businessmen to us, establish contacts through chambers of commerce and industry, and the trade mission, etc. Tomsk innovators, doctors, industrialists, university representatives, and others were brought to Vietnam. Now it has become clear that Tomsk technologies, goods and services are in demand among Indo-Chinese partners, so our business relations need to be further developed.
This movement towards one another is gaining momentum. Last month, our region was visited by a regular delegation of businessmen from Vietnam at the invitation of the Tomsk CCI, the Business Development Fund and the regional administration.
The delegation included representatives of Vietnamese companies interested in importing Tomsk products, services and technologies. Travel companies wishing to arrange tours from Vietnam to Siberia were present. For the Vietnamese, our region, with its Siberian winters and bears, looks exotic. By the way, at the end of September, the IV Festival of the Russian Geographical Society was held, in which travel agencies from Southeast Asia actively participated. The "Golden Ring of Siberia" tourist route was presented at the festival, the key points of which were Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Kyzyl, Shushenskoye, Abakan, Novokuznetsk and others.
During the visit, the guests got acquainted with the educational and innovative potential of the Tomsk Region, visited CJSC Center for Precision Machining, LLC Travel Agency Infocenter, LLC CCM Global, Animatronic, Special Economic Zone, where they held talks with resident companies LLC Elkomplus, LLC Solagift, LLC Resource-Komplekt.
The key event was the presentation of the economic potential and investment projects of our region, which was held in the Tomsk CCI. After the presentation, an exchange of contacts of Tomsk and Vietnamese entrepreneurs took place. Following the negotiations, preliminary agreements were reached on the supply of Siberian wild plants, ice cream products to the Vietnamese market, as well as on the development of international tourism. Note that this year there were already six tourist groups from Vietnam to the Tomsk region.
“The Vietnamese side has shown great interest in Tomsk developments,” commented the results of the visit, President of the Tomsk CCI Marina Uskova. "During meetings and negotiations, agreements were reached on the supply of Tomsk products. We hope to conclude contracts and increase exports to this country."
The visit of the delegation from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was organized by the Tomsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry as part of the Export Support Center of the Business Development Fund with the support of the Tomsk Region Administration and the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia as part of a national project on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
