Over 450 international students graduated from Tomsk Polytechnic University in 2022. The graduates of the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering from Colombia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Zambia, and Iraq have shared their stories and explained why they had decided to study in Russia. They recollected the brightest moments of their student life and what stereotypes about Russia they had defied.

“When I applied, I assumed that Russia was a flagship country in nuclear medicine. It turned out to be true. The TPU lecturers were very kind and helped us with everything. I never expected to meet such nice people. I have acquired the skills necessary for my future work through the knowledge and hands-on experience with TPU equipment,” said Davis Mubita from Zambia, a graduate of the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering.

“I decided to study in Russia because TPU is definitely one of the best Russian universities in nuclear engineering. One of the highlights I experienced in Russia was a cultural program where we tried various Russian specialties. Another memorable experience was an internship in one of Russian cities, where we visited a nuclear power plant and got engineering experience and training,” shared Michael Nii Sanka Ansah, a graduate from Ghana.

“I like the friendly teaching method of the Russian lecturers, their manner of delivering lectures, clarity and invigorating presentation style most of all. I like that it is not too hot in Tomsk and I love taking long walks in summertime. The Russians are very self-disciplined and punctual people, which is also a good thing. I have applied for a postgraduate program, so I am going to continue my studies at TPU,”

said Opoku Sevorjie Emmanuel from Ghana, a graduate of the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering.

“I would encourage other students and graduates to take their education very seriously. You should be proud of yourself and the fact that you study at one of the best universities in Russia, if not in the world, as TPU is one of a few universities having a nuclear research reactor. I think graduates should be proud to be part of a large polytechnic family,” said Afornu Bright Kwame from Ghana, a graduate of the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering.
