Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on Tuesday at a meeting with residents of the Tomsk Special Economic Zone (SEZ) noted the positive effect of their work with local universities, in particular with Tomsk State University (TSU).

Earlier it was reported that the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin is on a visit to Tomsk on Tuesday. He is scheduled to visit Tomsk SEZ, TSU and the Svetlensky Lyceum building under construction in the Northern Park (Severny Park). In his previous visit to Tomsk (2007) in the rank of the Head of the Federal Agency for the Management of Special Economic Zones, Mishustin was just discussing the creation of the Tomsk SEZ.

"Cooperation with Tomsk State University and in general with your universities, which are concentrated here and help you (SEZ residents) with both students and new personnel, there is a mutual exchange – this is a very important direction," Mishustin said.

According to RIA Tomsk, the Prime Minister met with representatives of Elcom+, Research and Production Association Almaz, ENBISYS, MOJE Keramik-Implantate and Micran.

Mishustin recalled his previous visit to the SEZ. "When the SEZ in Tomsk started, it was a pioneer of this type of economic zones, of technology and innovation type. We met back in 2007 with a large number of guys, students, those entrepreneurs who wanted to become residents of the economic zone in Tomsk. And it is important that today it continues to develop," the Prime Minister said.

He said that about 14 billion rubles was invested by the state in the SEZ, 22 billion rubles are investments of the residents of this economic zone with a turnover of more than 26 billion rubles. "This is very important," Mishustin concluded.

Tomsk SEZ, one of the six technical innovation zones of the Russian Federation, was opened on April 26, 2006. In 2017, the construction of the Expocenter and Engineering Center, which began in Tomsk in 2015, was halted due to the beginning of the transfer of powers to manage the SEZ from the federal to the regional level. In October 2020, the authorities announced the resumption of work at the Expocenter site, but it was stopped again to correct the design documentation. The deadline for the facility is October 1, 2021.
