A trial launch of Tomsk's 5G standard communications base station took place in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) during the visit of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Tomsk on Tuesday, RIA Tomsk correspondent reports from the scene.

Earlier it was reported that the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin is on a visit to Tomsk on Tuesday. In the morning he visited the Tomsk SEZ, where he met with its residents - representatives of the companies Elcom+, Research and Production Association Almaz, ENBISYS, MOJE Keramik-Implantate and Micran. Mishustin noted the positive effect of their work with local universities, in particular with Tomsk State University (TSU).

"When we opened the first 5G pilot site beyond the Urals, we said we would create the first base station on the 5G system by 2024. Already today we can demonstrate the first elements of this base station. It does not yet have a 100 percent domestic element base, but some of the elements are already manufactured by Miсran, which is a big start," TUSUR Rector Viсtor Rulevsky told RIA Tomsk.

According to the Rector of Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR), the architecture of the base station provides for a 100 percent transition to domestic components according to the modular type. "This system is built so that it can adapt to the domestic component base, which is being developed in cooperation - with Micran, Skoltech, Eltex," Rulevsky noted.

According to the commercial director of Micran Egor Ilin, in 2022-2023 the company expects to start in Tomsk domestic serial production of base stations.
"Now the layout samples are presented, by the end of the year we plan to present prototypes. A pilot zone (for base station production) will be organized in the Tomsk region. Within the framework of this zone we want to start pilot testing of domestic equipment," Ilin specified.

He added that analysts are currently predicting quite high demand for these products: "If the demand is as forecasted at the moment, there will be a distributed production model. I do not exclude that we will involve some of the partners, while we have the task to organize this series."

It was previously reported that in 2020 MTS launched the first pilot communication network of the fifth generation beyond the Urals based on TUSUR and Micran. This is a joint project with Micran, under which domestic radio modules of the fifth generation are developed, as well as with Skoltech, where TUSUR carries out development of protocols, modeling of signal distribution channels, working conditions with a large number of subscribers and so on. In these projects, new domestic 5G solutions are being created.
